Lucian Brujan is a Senior Scientific Officer for International Relations at the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. Since 2015, he has served as the Coordinator for Education, Science, and Innovation of the Berlin Process – an intergovernmental initiative dedicated to the European integration of the Western Balkans. In this capacity, Lucian coordinates the Berlin Process Joint Science Conference, one of the longest-running science diplomacy formats in Europe. He is currently Member of the Executive Committee of the European Science Advisors Forum as German Permanent Representative. His previous roles include leading the Ukraine Coordination Group of the Alliance of German Science Organisations (2023–2025) and being a member of the European Commission’s Science Diplomacy Group of Experts (2024–2025). With over 20 years of experience in science policy, diplomacy, advice and management, Lucian previously served as Director of International Affairs and Communication and as a lecturer in Geography/Geosciences at the University of Tübingen. He holds degrees in Geography and German Studies, having studied at the University of Tübingen and the Western University of Timişoara.
