Giulia Pelillo is Head of the Research Area Cultural Studies at the Diplomatische Akademie Wien / Vienna School of International Studies. Her work lies at the intersection of language, media, and cultural studies, bridging the humanities and social sciences.

Her research and teaching focus on inter- and transculturality, cultural diplomacy, and the politics of culture in the context of globalization and mediatized communication. She is particularly interested in how cultural and media flows, borders, and conflicts shape contemporary inter- and transnational relations.

From a theoretical perspective, her work engages with critiques of methodological nationalism and develops transcultural approaches to understanding culture beyond national frameworks. She is a founding member and Vice-Chair of the Kulturwissenschaftliche Gesellschaft.
